An Interview with Dr. Shawn Palmer N.D.: More About Aspen Creek Naturopathic Clinic in Laramie, Wyoming
What makes you different from other doctors?
I try never to tell a client that it’s all in their head because usually it’s not. I have a firm belief that most problems have have a solution. I can be very persistent about trying to solve peoples problems. I also think it’s very important to not make people feel guilty for seeing other practitioners so I also try to play well with other services in town. I think that’s important because I certainly dont do everything so I think its important to be able to work within the context of the kind of other therapies someone is doing.
A lot of what I’m trying to do is trying to find the thing that hasn't been done yet and a lot of times it’s by taking a different point or angle that is usually what ends up allowing you to solve the problem. Whether that person has already seen two or three conventional doctors already seen two or three alternative medicine practitioners, I try to take the whole of what’s already been tried and try to find the thing that hasn't been tried yet. A lot of times by doing that that’s when you can find a solution for somebody.
Can you tell us about your pain management therapies?
Ive actually been working with pain at some level with clients through my whole practice because that’s probably one of the biggest issues people struggle with. A lot of people can live with some gastrointestinal upset or other issues but when they hurt a lot of people really would like to not be hurting anymore, especially since it can interact with large parts of their life whether sleep or starts to not be able to do things you used to like playing with your kids or grandkids or just being all go and enjoy a nice walk in the mountains.
For me I’ve always been on a quest of how I can help more people experiencing pain, especially the people who aren't being held in town. That’s why I was really interested in getting into a new pain technique called frequency specific micro current. What it allows me to do is help treat a broader range of pain and sometimes the forms of pain that people are still struggling with. We’ve done work with how to reduce pain from rotator cuff tears and reducing pain associated with a meniscal tear which is one of the things that there’s not a lot of other options outside of surgery for. I’ve helped people with foot pain of various kinds and different types of neuropathy and bells palsy type of problems. We can treat most most muscular skeletal issues. This seems to be helpful for issues that are not responding to other therapies. This kind of therapy may even be helpful for people who have pain from cancer. It might be helpful for someone in a terminal state. It may be helpful for people who have pain from missing limbs or have some form of fibromyalgia.
There’s a pretty broad range of pain situations that it can be helpful for. I’ve also done some nice work with people who have chronic pain, or ovarian pain and most of the time it works. I usually know within a few visits if it’s worth your time.
